The bride's mehndi gets all the planning, but a wedding has a whole party to decorate. A little coordination keeps the mehndi function fun instead of a bottleneck.

The groom

Most grooms want something small and personal:

• Initials or a wedding date on the inner wrist or one finger.
• A single palm emblem — a motif from the couple's story, a deity, a musical or sport symbol.

Timing the function

3. Party and guests after, or at a parallel station.

Add one artist purely for the bride and immediate family so they aren't rushed, and start them earliest for the darkest stain on the wedding day.

Setting up a self-serve station

For big numbers, a table with instant henna cones, a few reusable stencils, tissues, cotton buds and printed aftercare cards lets guests do a quick motif themselves while the artists focus on family. Keep it away from food and drink so wet paste doesn't get knocked.

Kids at the function

Children usually want something fast and fun — a single flower, a star, a cartoon motif via stencil. Use a natural instant cone, keep it small, and tell parents to keep the child from licking or rubbing it. Never use "black henna" on anyone, and especially not children.

A simple run-sheet for the mehndi function
